1. Take Challenging Classes and Earn High Grades
Colleges like students who are always pushing themselves to take the most challenging courses offered at their school and earn high grades in these classes (AP,IB,Honors,or Accelerated classes).
Note: You should always balance out your classes
What i mean by balancing out your classes is: you should never take too many or too little challenging classes because they can either hurt your GPA or make it seem like you are not challenging yourself.
Bonus: You should always try to take the most challenging classes in the field that interests you instead of taking classes that you don't really like or have interest for. (The more you like the class the better you will probably do)

2. Score High On The SAT/ACT/PSAT
Strong SAT/ACT/PSAT can and will open many doors during the college admission process which means you should take advantage of all the resources around you and study for the SAT&ACT through websites like https://www.khanacademy.org/ , https://www.act.org/ , https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat or you can buy an ACT or SAT book online.
High PSAT are also important because they can qualify you for top awards such as being a National Merit Commended, National Merit Semifinalist,or a National Merit Finalist

Getting involved in high school also shows colleges that you will be involved in their campus. Always remember if you can't find a club that fits you start your own!
Note: You should never join random clubs instead you should join a couple clubs that your are committed to!(Quality over Quantity)
Bonus: Always try to become the leader of the club or the captain of your sports team. You should also join clubs that have to do with your interest or your future major at college. ex: if your planning to major in computer science in college you should join a computer science club or a coding club at you school.
Most importantly: STAND OUT IN WHAT YOU DO

4.SAT Subject Tests, AP Exams, Letters Of Recommendation, and Essays.
SAT Subject Test= You should always try to take them because some top schools do require them.
AP Exams= Taking an AP Exam is a bonus on your college application and it also helps you by giving you college credits and saving on your tuition. (You should always aim for a 5 or 4 on your AP Exam)
Letters Of Recommendation: You should build strong relationships with your teachers, coaches, and counselor throughout high school because they will be the ones writing your letter of recommendation later on.
